Vintage Airfix is run by an Airfix enthusiast for fellow fans everywhere, celebrating the kits that sparked so many childhood memories and exploring the history of Airfix through the years.
Welcome to Vintage Airfix, a site created for fellow Airfix enthusiasts and collectors. Here you will find detailed information on every kit featured in Airfix catalogues from 1962 to 2010, celebrating one of Britain’s most iconic model manufacturers.
As a lifelong admirer of Airfix, I have always been struck by the sheer range and creativity of the kits produced over the decades. The name Airfix has become almost synonymous with plastic modelling itself, to the point where many people refer to any plastic kit as “an Airfix”, regardless of who made it. Founded in 1952, Airfix is the UK’s oldest plastic model manufacturer and remains one of the most recognisable and best-loved brands in the hobby. Now part of Hornby Hobbies Ltd, it continues to grow while staying true to its heritage.
This site documents every Airfix catalogue from 1962 to 2010. For each kit, you will find details of the catalogue or patent number under which it appeared, along with the year it was first issued and, where known, the artist responsible for the box artwork. This information can be found in the Additional Information section on each product page.
You will also find a growing collection of book reviews covering titles useful to modellers and researchers alike, along with a selection of instruction sheets available to download free of charge. There is a dedicated section on Airfix history, including a timeline of box styles through the years, as well as a guide to the artists whose work became such a defining feature of Airfix kits.
And of course, at the heart of the site are the Airfix catalogues themselves, covering the years from 1962 to 2010, preserved here for enthusiasts, collectors and anyone with a fondness for the golden age of plastic modelling.
