Description
A brilliant cavalry commander, his Ironsides army defeated the Royalists of Charles I in the Civil War. Appointed Protector in 1653, he accomplished religious, legel and moral reforms; he refused a crown in 1657. – Taken from the 1st edition catalogue (1962)
