Affectionately known as "The Stringbag" the Fairey Swordfish was designed as a carrier based, torpedo-spoter-reconnaissance aircraft. Torpedo carrying Swordfish aircraft took part in most of the great Navel actions of the war. Some versions of the Swordfish were equipped to take rockets, mines or bombs as well as air-to-sea radar.
