Airfix Catalogue description:Mercedes Benz were just one of the large car manufacturing companies to take advantage of the end of petrol rationing in the 1950's. Alongside Jaguar and Porsche, they began to develop faster, exclusive and expensive cars for both the road and race track. Due to the 300SL's exceptionally high sills it was necessary for the doors to open upwards - this distinctive shape earning it the name 'Gullwing'. The classic design of this car has made it a collector's item all over the world. With this realistic kit from Airfix you too can add it to your collection. - Taken from the 1992 edition catalogue
1993 edition catalogue, listed as Mercedes-Benz 300 SL Gullwing from Mercedes 300SL Gullwing.
