As the world erupted into conflict in September 1939, the RAF had more Bristol Blenheims in service than any other aircraft and it was to see extensive service during the savage air battles to come. Used mainly as a light bomber, the Blenheim was also developed into a long range fighter, with these aircraft equipped with a ventral pack of four .303 machine guns, which were produced by the Ashford workshops of the Southern Railways.
