With its four Rolls-Royce Griffon engines giving it the nickname Growler, the Shackleton flew with the RAF from 1949 until 1991. It played a number of roles throughout its service but mainly it was an anti-submarine aircraft and could carry up to 10,000lb of bombs, torpedoes or mines.
